EV Lithium Ion Battery State of Health Dataset Under Consideration of Temperature

Listed in Teesside University Research Data Repository

The dataset used in this study is derived from the NASA lithium-ion battery aging dataset and has been extended to include multiple battery types operating under varied conditions.

Description

It comprises a total of 1,943 samples collected from different batteries subjected to diverse environmental and operational settings. The recorded parameters include voltage, current, temperature, and elapsed test time.

In addition to these primary measurements, derived features such as time difference (Δt), modified current, and discharge capacity (Ah) are also considered. These features collectively describe the battery’s electrochemical and operational behaviour. Voltage and current represent instantaneous operating conditions, temperature reflects thermal effects, and time-related features capture the temporal progression of battery performance.

Discharge capacity (Ah) serves as a critical indicator of battery degradation and plays a key role in estimating the State of Health (SOH). The dataset incorporates different voltage drop (Vdrop) thresholds across battery types. Battery types 5, 28, 32, 36, 40, and 44 operate with a cutoff voltage of 2.7 V. Battery types 6, 18, 27, 31, 39, and 43 have a cutoff voltage of 2.5 V, while battery types 7, 26, 34, 38, and 42 operate at 2.2 V. Battery types 25, 29, 33, and 41 operate at a lower cutoff voltage of 2.0 V. These variations influence the depth of discharge and significantly affect battery aging characteristics.

The load current conditions also vary across battery types. Batteries 5, 6, 7, 18, and 36 operate at a constant load current of 2 A, whereas batteries 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 33, and 34 operate at 4 A. Batteries 38, 39, 40, 42, 43, and 44 are subjected to multiple load currents of 1 A, 2 A, and 4 A, representing dynamic operating conditions. Battery 41 operates at a load current of 1 A. These variations influence discharge rate, internal resistance, and thermal behavior, all of which contribute to battery degradation.

In addition to electrical variations, the dataset includes multiple temperature conditions. Battery types 5, 6, 7, 18, 25, 26, 27, and 28 operate at 24°C. Battery types 29, 31, and 32 operate at a higher temperature of 43°C. Battery types 33, 34, and 36 operate at 24°C. Batteries 38, 39, and 40 are tested at both 24°C and 44°C. Battery 41 operates at a low temperature of 4°C. Batteries 42, 43, and 44 are tested at two temperature levels, 22°C and 4°C. These temperature variations play a significant role in influencing battery performance, degradation rate, and overall lifespan.

The dataset is organized with key attributes including Battery Type, Temperature, Voltage Drop (Vdrop), Load Current, Minimum Voltage (Vmin), Voltage Variance (Vvariance), Cycle Number, Discharge Capacity (Ah), and SOH. These parameters collectively provide a detailed representation of battery behaviour, forming a strong foundation for accurate SOH estimation under diverse operating conditions.
