Ross Ice Shelf project: sea floor sediment cores

Listed in NASA Earthdata CMR

This event aims to gather data about and model key processes and process interactions that govern the rate at which the RIS responds to global warming.

Description

To do this, we collected oceanogaphic data (CTD, moorings, cameras etc) to observe modern processes, sediment coring to reconstruct the retreat history of the RIS, glaciological and ice physics (radar, borehole thermistors etc), mass balance (AWS and sea bed heat flow. A key achievement were two bore holes; HWD2a for ocean mooring and seisometer installation and HWD2b for the seismic sparker.

This data set refers to sediment core(s) collected from underneath the Ross Ice Shelf, up to 0.65 m below sea floor.
