Replication Data and Code for: Emission Permits and Firms’ Environmental Social Responsibility
Listed in Borealis
The data and programs replicate tables and figures from "Emission Permits and Firms' Environmental Social Responsibility", by Clò, Iannucci, and Tampieri.
Description
Please see the ReadMe file for additional details. This replication package contains the Stata code used to construct the analysis dataset and reproduce the empirical tables and figures in the paper “Emission Permits and Firms' Environmental Social Responsibility”.
The main replication file is `replication.do`. The code imports firm-level Refinitiv Workspace/Eikon CSR and ESG data, merges them with firm-level sector and country information, harmonizes sector and country classifications, incorporates EU ETS allowance data from the European Environment Agency EU ETS Data Viewer, constructs the treatment and ETS stringency variables, and estimates the empirical specifications reported in the paper.

The code produces the empirical tables and figures used in the paper, including the baseline TWFE DiD estimates, dynamic event-study estimates, ETS stringency specifications, robustness checks, propensity-score matching estimates, and alternative ESG-score analyses. A full replication from raw data requires access to proprietary Refinitiv Workspace/Eikon data, which cannot be redistributed as part of the public replication package.
Publicly available EU ETS allowance data and auxiliary country-code information are described below. Therefore, the code reproduces the empirical tables and figures conditional on access to the required Refinitiv Workspace/Eikon input files.
