Background

The dataset file includes socio-economic, political and institutional data on a sample of countries. Purpose The dataset was built with the aim to study the relationship between Gender Equality (dependent variable) and Social Capital (key indipendent variable), at the country level, controlling also for other relevant variables such as (Democracy, Control of Corruption, GINI index, Government Effectiveness and others).

Methods

The dataset was built by aggregating data from different sources and existing databases (OCSE, World Bank, V-DEM Institute, ISD). Data Structure / Contents The structure of the data is longitudinal, with country data points every 5 years from 1990 to 2020. Value of the data for potential reuse By combining data from multiple sources the dataset represents a unique point of reference for investigating relationships between social dimensions of societies.

Results From the analysis performed it is shown that the relationship between Gender Equality and Social Capital is generally not statistically significant. Conclusion Main conclusions focus on the role of Social Capital as as variable prone to reproduce existing gender inequalities also within existing networks, instead of a variable able to bridge existing gaps.
