This thesis investigates the Chinese-to-English translation and<br>subtitling of the documentary "Masters in the Forbidden City" using a<br>multimodal approach informed by Systemic Functional Linguistics, Translation<br>Studies, and Film Studies.
Description
The research aims to establish a novel paradigm for<br>audiovisual text translation within specific cultural contexts and consists of<br>two main components: the translation work and a self-reflective analysis.
Key<br>challenges, such as translating specialized terms and technical subtitling<br>issues, are identified. This study highlights the importance of multimodal<br>analysis in aligning subtitling strategies with visual and auditory elements,<br>ultimately enriching the fields of Audiovisual Translation and documentary<br>studies.<br><br><i>Thesis embargoed until 31 December 2029.</i>
