Tailoring Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) Traits to Microclimates: A Multi-Location Evaluation of Growth, Yield, and Quality Responses in Western Ethiopia

Listed in ScienceDB

Description: This dataset presents findings from a multi-location experiment investigating the performance of eight national tomato cultivars and one local check under contrasting microclimates in Western Ethiopia during the 2022–2023 off-seasons.

Description

The data captures comprehensive details on the growth, yield, quality, and post-harvest characteristics of different tomato genotypes across two distinct sites: Bako Tibe and Gambella Tare.Data Generation:Ø Sites: Bako Tibe (sub-humid, clay loam soil, mean annual rainfall 1289 mm) and Gambella Tare (mixed agricultural practices, alluvial soil, mean annual rainfall 1800 mm).Ø Design: a randomized complete block design with three replications at each location.Ø Treatments: Nine genotypes (8 national cultivars + 1 local check).Ø Data Collection: 35 agronomic and quality traits were assessed on 10 randomly selected plants per genotype per site following standardized protocols by IPGRI (1996).Ø Traits: quantitative (growth, yield, physicochemical properties), qualitative (fruit morphology, physiological disorders, plant morphology, postharvest quality).Data Format:Tabular data is stored in spreadsheet format (e.g., Excel, CSV).Each row represents a specific data point (genotype, location, replication, trait value).Headers clearly define variable names, units, and other relevant information.Data Scope:Temporal: single off-season cropping season (2022-2023).ü Spatial: Two sites representing distinct microclimates in Western Ethiopia.ü Data Entries: Total of ~6300 data points (9 genotypes x 2 locations x 3 replications x 10 plants x 35 traits).Missing Data: there is no missing dataError Information: Data normality was checked before analysis.

Any identified statistical errors or anomalies documented within the dataset and accompanying research article.File Access: Data files are available upon request or through a designated repository with clear instructions for access and download.Software Compatibility: Tabular data is readily accessible using standard spreadsheet software. Additional software may be required for specific analyses, depending on the data format and user needs.
