CPR Land Sales Tabular Data 2026
Listed in Borealis
The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Land Sales Tabular Data contains records of agricultural land sales by the CPR to settlers in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba between 1881 and 1927.
Description
The dataset includes purchaser names, legal land descriptions (e.g., NW-03-045-24-W4, where available), number of acres purchased, and cost per acre. A small number of records do not contain legal land descriptions and therefore cannot be associated with a specific province.
This dataset contains the tabular CPR land sale records only, the corresponding spatial datasets are provided separately for Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. These records were transcribed from the original CPR Land Sales ledgers by volunteers from the Glenbow Archives and later enhanced by Archives and Special Collections at UCalgary. The completeness and accuracy of the dataset cannot be guaranteed, and researchers are encouraged to verify all details.
