Distribution and host associations of Viscum album in the urban environment of Gdańsk, Poland

Listed in GBIF

The dataset contains records of the common mistletoe (Viscum album L.) in the urban environment of Gdańsk (northern Poland), collected during long-term field surveys conducted since 2017 in successive districts of the city.

Description

The study has an inventory-based character and focuses on the distribution of mistletoe and the identification of its host plants. The geographic scope of the dataset is being gradually expanded to include additional districts of Gdańsk.

For each colonized tree or shrub, the location, taxonomic identity of the host, and abundance of mistletoe were recorded. Observations were conducted mainly during the winter period, when the parasite was most visible on leafless trees, while host identification was supplemented during subsequent phases of the growing season. The dataset documents relationships between mistletoe and its hosts across different types of urban environments and may provide a basis for studies on the species’ ecology, host preferences, and the influence of urbanization on mistletoe distribution.
