Cumulative Advantage and Spatial Friction in Urban-Tourism Knowledge Production: Longitudinal Evidence from China-Affiliated Institutional Collaboration, 2011–2025

Listed in ScienceDB

Description

This dataset supports the manuscript “Cumulative Advantage in Scientific Collaboration: Longitudinal Evidence from Tie Formation and Persistence under Bibliographic Coverage Instability.” It contains the processed bibliographic, institutional-network, geographic-opportunity, longitudinal dyadic, statistical-model, and supplementary materials used to examine China-affiliated urban-tourism research indexed by OpenAlex from 2011 to 2025.The archived retrieval contained 61,332 unique candidate works.

A frozen, fully automated eligibility procedure was applied to the same candidate checkpoint to construct a strict primary corpus of 1,333 works, an expanded sensitivity corpus of 1,824 works, and a balanced-source sensitivity cohort of 130 works from 13 sources. No manual eligibility labels were used in the final robustness analysis. The repository package includes the complete candidate-level automated screening audit and screening reasons; strict, expanded, and balanced-source corpus files; work–institution and institution metadata; period-specific network edge and node tables; geographic opportunity data; opportunity-adjusted distance summaries; longitudinal dyad risk sets for new-tie emergence and tie persistence; standardization parameters; pooled and post-break regression outputs; model-status and optimizer diagnostics; robustness summaries; retrieval-query metadata; the frozen screening rulebook; run manifests and checksums; analysis/reproduction scripts; software requirements; and all manuscript-relevant Supplementary Tables S1–S13 and Supplementary Figures S1–S3.The data support reproducibility of the reported analyses of cumulative institutional advantage, spatial friction, collaboration-network development, tie formation, and tie persistence.

Particular attention is given to bibliographic coverage instability: a pronounced 2015–2016 discontinuity in the archived OpenAlex-derived series is preserved rather than retrospectively corrected, and the repository includes the post-break sensitivity analyses used to test whether the principal findings remain stable after excluding the transition crossing that discontinuity. The dataset should therefore be interpreted as a bounded OpenAlex-indexed research population rather than a complete census of Chinese urban-tourism scholarship.

Annual record counts should not be interpreted as national publication-growth estimates. The accompanying files are provided to facilitate transparent verification, reproducibility, methodological reuse, and future comparative studies of scientific collaboration networks. The dataset is deposited in the JDIS ScienceDB community under the CC BY 4.0 license in accordance with the Journal of Data and Information Science data-sharing policy.
