Database of Multi Organ Functional Trait Associations for Woody Legumes Across Mycorrhizal Types
Listed in ScienceDB
Leguminous plants possess a dual mutualistic system consisting of nodule nitrogen fixation and mycorrhizal symbiosis and play a vital role in material cycling and community assembly of terrestrial ecosystems.
Description
Mycorrhizal type acts as a key factor driving the differentiation of multi‑organ functional traits and resource trade‑off strategies in legumes. However, most existing public databases focus on single organs or merely provide mycorrhizal checklists.
There is a lack of legume‑specific datasets that systematically match multi‑organ functional traits (leaves, stems, roots, seeds and wood) with mycorrhizal types, which limits large‑scale research on the associations between mycorrhizal symbiosis and plant functional traits. In this study, we compiled a database by integrating taxonomically standardized species‑level functional trait data of global vascular plants (derived from the TRY 3.0 plant functional trait database), the FungalRoot mycorrhizal database, and published literature in Chinese and English.

Species scientific names were standardized and verified according to The Plant List. The mycorrhizal symbiotic types of species were cross‑validated using multi‑source databases and publications. After quality control procedures including record screening, unit unification, outlier identification and standardized treatment of missing values, we constructed a database of multi‑organ functional trait associations for woody legumes across different mycorrhizal types. The dataset consists of three core Excel spreadsheets that record aboveground functional traits (leaf, stem, seed and wood) and belowground root functional traits of woody legumes.
Species are labelled with five mycorrhizal categories: AM, ECM, mixed AM‑ECM, NM and uncertain. A complete metadata document is also provided. This dataset fills the gap of legume‑specific datasets linking multi‑organ traits and mycorrhizal types. It can supply standardized basic data for studies on functional trait trade‑offs of legumes, plant‑microbe symbiotic interactions, large‑scale comparative ecology, parameterization of ecological models, and species screening for vegetation restoration in degraded lands.
