The Feasibility Study of School Choice of Elementary School and Junior High School in Taiwan

The study attempts to analyze the implementation of parents\' school choice in different countries and to understand the feasibility of implementing school choice of elementary school and junior high school in Taiwan.

Description

Two categories of subjects are involved in the study. 15 persons, composed of scholars, school\'s administrators, and parents are included in one category. The other category is composed of questionnaires for 787 teachers and parents.

Conclusions are drawn as follows: 1.Major countries differ in school choice styles, whereas parents are gradually consented with the right of school choice. 2.The quality of the school is the main factor for consideration in parents\' school choice. 3.Public schools have a great impact in countries implementing school choice. 4.The quality of teaching is the main factor for consideration in parents\' school choice in Taiwan. 5.The best way for parents to acquaint school affairs is by visiting school. 6.The most effective function of the current school district system is to solve traffic problem in sending children back and forth from and to school. 7.The ineffective function of the current school district system is to ignore the right of parents\' school choice. 8.The advantage of implementing school choice is to incite the school on developing its own features and highlights. 9.The disadvantage of school choice is to cause unequal opportunity of education. 10.Equal distribution of educational resources and school autonomy should match with the implementation of school choice. 11.Taipei and Kaoshiung citizens tend to enforce school choice in administrative areas only while Taiwan Province citizens have different opinions. 12.72% of parents in Taiwan support the implementation of school choice. 13.Parents have a positive attitude toward applying the model of private management of public school.
