Investigation of the glacial history of the Siple Coast using radar-detected internal layers and the ice core from Siple Dome

Listed in NASA Earthdata CMR

We are using ice-penetrating radar data collected over the course of several field seasons in West Antarctica to analyze and detect englacial radar layers.

Description

These radar layers are due to fluctuations in density, acidity and crystal fabrics within the ice, which reflect the radar waves that our ground-based system transmits into the ice. In this study we developed algorithms to: 1.

Improve detection and location of radar-detected layers in ice. 2. Estimate englacial radio-wave attenuation using depth profiles of temperature and ionic impurities.
