Effects and Microscopic Mechanisms of Graphene/Copper Nano-Additives on the Lubricating Properties of Castor Oil Based on Molecular Dynamics
Listed in ScienceDB
Aiming at the environmental pollution problem of petroleum-based lubricants, in order to explore the lubrication performance of green and biodegradable castor oil, nano-copper (Cu), graphene (RGO) and graphene/ copper (RGO/Cu) were prepared by freeze-drying method as castor oil additives.
Description
The lubricating performance of oil samples with different additives under different loads and speeds was evaluated by the ball-on-disc tribometer.
The molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was used to establish the graphene/copper nanofluid model, simulate the micro lubrication process and investigate the lubrication performance and micro-lubrication mechanism under different working conditions. It was found that RGO/Cu can exert the synergistic friction-reducing and anti-wear effects of RGO and Cu. After its addition, the average friction coefficient of castor oil decreases by approximately 41.1%.

Both experimental and simulation results show that the Cu oil sample can undergo plastic deformation under high load and low speed, forming a sliding system on the surface of the friction pair, thus exhibiting superior lubrication performance, with an average friction coefficient of approximately 0.111. RGO can better exert the interlayer effect under appropriate shear force, so the average friction coefficients of RGO and RGO/Cu oil samples under medium load and medium speed are relatively excellent, approximately 0.103 and 0.092, respectively.
