Role and Network Structure Change of The Board of Directors in Taiwan\'s Public Companies

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

Employing field and telephone interviews and statistical analysis, this research studies the role and network structure change of the board of directors in 157 Taiwan\'s public companies.

Description

The research finds that the presence of family members in public companies\' boards is decreasing, the proportion of professional directors, on contrast, is increasing. The findings, nevertheless, might be misleading, since a controlling family might use its own investment vehicles or \"puppets\" to hide the real influences and to make a company\'s board behave as a rubber stamp.

Using field interviews to compliment empirical analysis, this research concludes that family influence indeed are decreasing, especially larger size and late-founded companies.
