Automated Movement Management System Files

Listed in Harvard Dataverse

The agency designed this series as a command and control system to provide automated support to logisticians in directing transportation of cargo both within and away from South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Description

It used the data to analyze each projected shipment, determine the most expeditious shipping route, and assign cargoes automatically to specific cargo ships. This series contains records that describe shipments.

There are two types of records, the Transportation Control and Movement Document (TCMD) records, which assign unique numbers for every shipment made, and the Cargo Clearance Orders (CCO) records, which combine two or more TCMDs. Both record types include such information as ports or embarkation and debarkation; priorities; descriptions of cargo by type, weight and measurement; the name of the cargo ship; and dates the cargo was loaded, shipped, and arrived.
