Prevalence, Associated Factors and Care for Postpartum Depression in Latvia

Conducted in collaboration with Riga Matedrinty Hospital, the study screened all women attending routine 4-6‑week postpartum gynecological visits (June 2024-May 2025). Screening positive women (PHQ‑9 ≥5) was assessed by psychiatrists with MINI 7.0.2 semis-tructures interview within two weeks.

Sub-sample of women was further qualitative interviewed to contextualise lived experiences, care‑seeking behaviour, provided care and feasibility /acceptability of new care model. Quantitative analyses demonstrated that approximately 18% of Latvian postpartum women experience clinically significant depressive symptoms. Latvian‑specific cut‑off scores (EPDS ≥11; PHQ‑9 ≥8) were established, ensuring culturally and diagnostically appropriate clinical application.
