Mineral chemistry (EPMA, LA-ICP-MS) of detrital scheelite from the Felbertal, Stubachtal and Hollersbachtal, Eastern Alps

The study is based mainly on tungsten enrichments documented during exploration activities in the 1970s and 1980s in different geological units of the Eastern Alps. The project objective is to assess potential tungsten showings based on characteristic mineralogical-geochemical datasets (“fingerprints”).

The dataset includes mineralogical and geochemical investigations from three valleys in the Hohe Tauern region, including the Felbertal, which hosts one of the most significant tungsten deposits in Europe. The investigation focuses on scheelite (CaWO₄) - the dominant tungsten mineral in the Eastern Alps. Scheelite was characterized using a combination of cathodoluminescence imaging, electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and in-situ laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS).
