A new species of the Micronesian oecophorid moth, genus Elaeonoma Meyrick, 1914 (Lepidoptera, Oecophoridae), from the Ogasawara Islands, Japan

Nota Lepidopterologica 49: 137-156, DOI: 10.3897/nl.49.195224 Abstract. In this study, Elaeonoma ultima sp. nov., a new species of oecophorid moth from the Ogasawara Islands, Japan is described.

Photographs of adults, male and female genitalia, and aspects of this species’ biology, including adult behavior, egg-laying substrates, and hatched larval behavior, are shown. A phylogenetic tree and haplotype network were constructed based on the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI - 5 P) DNA barcode sequences, including those of some Elaeonoma species related to this new species. In addition, the systematic position, geographical variation, habitat, and potential effects of alien predators on this new species are discussed.
