The agency created and maintained these files to accumulate economic statistics on railroad transportation as part of their jurisdiction over railroad rate and service issues and rail restructuring transactions (mergers, line sales, line construction, and line abandonments).
Description
This series contains annual statistical samples of railroad traffic. The data include carload information (type, number and ownership); hazardous / bulk material in boxcar; commodity code; freight weight; all rail / i ntermodal code; type of move via water; estimated short line miles; freight rate territory (origin and termination); freight transportation and freight rate territory (origin and termination); transit charges; interchange states; and accounting period.
