An integrated spider venom toxin dataset linking protein sequences, traits, and geographic distributions

However, knowledge of spider venoms remains limited and biased, as fewer than 1% of described species have been examined. Furthermore, rapid advances in high-throughput sequencing and ongoing taxonomic revisions highlight the need for an updated quantitative assessment of venom and toxin research across spider species.

Here, we present a multi-dimensional dataset of spider venom-associated information compiled from 1,140 scientific publications and the UniProt database. The dataset encompasses 358 valid spider species for which venom-related data are available and comprises three interconnected modules: (1) a trait module consisting of species-level ecological, behavioral, and morphological attributes; (2) a protein module containing 10,986 venom-associated sequences, each classified into functional categories and assigned a standardized evidence tier; (3) an occurrence module providing 44,354 quality-controlled geographic records.
