Effects of GFO® supplementation on cecal microbiota composition during prolonged fasting in rats

Listed in NCBI GEO

Prolonged fasting is known to alter gut microbiota composition and impair intestinal homeostasis.

Description

To investigate the effects of nutritional supplementation on fasting-associated microbiota changes, male Sprague-Dawley rats were administered GFO® (a nutritional formulation containing glutamine, dietary fiber, and oligosaccharides) or 15% glucose solution twice daily for 9 days. Animals underwent fasting from days 6 to 9.

A fed control group and a fasting-only group were included for comparison. Cecal contents were collected after euthanasia and subjected to 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing. This dataset was generated to evaluate fasting-associated alterations in gut microbial communities and the modulatory effects of GFO supplementation.
